The most recent of the Vail Valley Foundation’s educational initiatives, Sowing Seeds will focus on the scientific aspect of teaching children about how foods grow, as well as the accompanying nutritional message of eating healthy. Created in conjunction with chef Kelly Liken of Restaurant Kelly Liken and Rick & Kelly’s, the pilot program will be integrated into Brush Creek Elementary School and will initially involve a greenhouse project where students will not only plant and care for their own gardens, but will eventually evolve into actually selling their produce at local farmer’s markets during the summer.
