America’s original Pro/Am celebrity ski event returns to Vail Mountain March 19-21 as the 2009 Korbel California Champagne American Ski Classic takes Golden Peak by storm.
Some of the greatest names in ski racing history, including Olympic, World Championships and World Cup champions will kickoff the festivities Thursday, March 19, as old rivalries are rekindled in the Volvo Legends of Skiing Giant Slalom competition, followed by a special edition of the Bud Light Street Beat free concert series, featuring legendary bluesman Taj Mahal.
The Legends will then take on the role of team captains for the Ford Cup celebrity team races Friday and Saturday, March 20-21, as the teams of five attempt to work their way through a two-day maze of head-to-head racing to emerge with the gold medal and a year’s worth of bragging rights.
Providing a festive backdrop to the action on the racecourse will be a full social schedule, with events including the second annual Hold ‘Em For Hope benefit Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament, the Gorsuch Tea Dance and the Legends of Skiing Banquet, this year honoring American racing great and Vail local Cindy Nelson.
So break out the sun screen and your favorite spring skiing attire and head out to Golden Peak March 19-21 for the 2009 Korbel California Champagne American Ski Classic.
