Vail Valley Foundation Scholorship

2009 Vail Valley Foundation Scholarship Program


The Vail Valley Foundation is pleased to offer the Vail Valley Foundation Scholarship to eligible, 2009 graduating seniors of all Eagle County high schools.  The scholarship will be presented to outstanding seniors who have excelled in academics, leadership, community service and athletics, and who has a financial need for college.  Scholarship recipients will be awarded $5000 annually, totaling $20,000 for four years.  Recipients will also be required to maintain specific contractual agreements outlined below.  For more information, contact Katie Brazelton at 970-748-5961.


Application Requirements:

  • All applications must be postmarked no later than April 25, 2009.
  • Applicants must be current Colorado residents for a minimum of two years.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative 3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale, and must include a copy of an official high school transcript with the application.
  • Two letters of recommendation are required; one from a teacher, and a second from someone other than a relative.
  • Applicants must submit a written essay on a topic determined by the scholarship committee.
  • Applicants must submit documented information indicating financial need.

Scholarship Distribution Procedures:

  • Applicants eligible for the VVF scholarship will be interviewed by the Vail Valley Foundation Scholarship committee and selected based on the following criteria:
    • a) grades 
    • b) application essay
    • c) grades
    • d) letters of recommendation
    • e) financial need
  • Scholarships are presented to selected seniors on Awards/Senior night.
  • Scholarship funds are distributed directly to the applicant’s college of choice.

Annual Scholarship Renewal Requirements

  • Scholarship recipients must maintain full-time academic status (a minimum of 12 credits per semester) at an accredited 4 year institution of higher learning.
  • Scholarship recipients must maintain a GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale their freshman year, and a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale for their remaining three years.
  • Official transcripts must be submitted to the Vail Valley Foundation after each grading period.
  • A written annual summary, detailing the school year and indicating continued leadership efforts, must be submitted to the Vail Valley Foundation by June 15th of each school year.
  • Scholarship recipients must fulfill a one-week (unpaid) internship with a Vail Valley Foundation non-profit partner at some point within the four years of college.
