“Engaging New Worlds” is a unique and focused concept currently being facilitated within Colorado in conjunction with the Beaver Creek/Vail 2013 FIS World Alpine Ski Championships bid. It is a program designed to grow the awareness and participation in the sports of skiing and snowboarding throughout the United States utilizing the 2013 FIS World Championships as a catalyst. The program targets young and old alike, not only those in geographic or demographic proximity to ski resorts, but also an emerging national population that would be eager to experience winter sport if the opportunity were presented.
Funded by the Beaver Creek/Vail 2013 FIS World Championships bid and facilitated by the Snowsports Outreach Society, “Engaging New Worlds” has dramatically impacted the youth of Eagle County this winter, along with at risk or underprivileged children from Colorado’s Front Range. In conjunction with the FIS World Championships bid, 17 new skiers and snowboarders were given scholarships in the name of the countries represented by the FIS Council members.
